The Jungle Book at Goodman Theatre | 2013 Music Workshop

2016-03-02 1 Dailymotion

In February 2013, The Jungle Book Director/Adapter Mary Zimmerman and Music Director Doug Peck held a music workshop which united six Chicago swing/jazz musicians with six Indian instrumentalists to fuse songs (the popular tunes from the Walt Disney film, its sequel and more) and styles (Western jazz and swing with Indian-inspired dance and classical music) to create a sound unique to this production. The legendary Academy Award and Grammy winner Richard Sherman is collaborating on this production, providing access and permission to adapt beloved songs that Sherman and his brother, Robert, wrote for the film—as well as unused songs written for the film, plus new lyrics written for this production. In this clip, Chicago actor Michael Lindner of the workshop cast sings Baloos song, The Bare Necessities.
